The Train-the-Trainer (TtT) model was created for police departments and/or community organizations to develop the internal capacity to offer the YPI training on a regular basis. It is a licensed approach to certify a local team of up to six trainers over the course of four separate week-long YPI trainings facilitated over the contract period.

Training

NAFI/YPI requires all Certified Trainers to use its copyrighted curriculum and survey instruments to maintain fidelity of the approach.

YPI Senior Trainers conduct pre-session orientations, weekly and daily group and individual coaching virtually and in the field with Trainer Candidates for up to 20 hours of coaching. Trainer Candidates gain proficiency as weekly YPI training continues. This establishes a group of certified trainers to sustain the YPI program within their agency.

At the end of each weekly session, there are structured discussions led by the YPI Senior Trainer and Trainer Candidates with both youth and police to form an action plan for follow up events to sustain the relationships developed.

Additionally, YPI Senior Trainers will continue coaching certified trainers once the initial TtT is completed to ensure sustainability of the model within the community to impact more youth and law enforcement.
